The course runs on Monday afternoons from 1pm to 3pm, 4th June – 9th July.
Using the historic Bideford Pannier Market as subject matter the class will involve working outside to develop drawings and sketches before moving back to Cafe Collective to develop the studies into finished pieces of work. All materials and equipment will be provided including portable seating and easels if required. If the weather is inclement there are indoor possibilities. Students will need good walking shoes although the distances will be short.
Cost: £18 per session or £95 for all six.

Cafe collective is a small friendly cafe situated on the corner of Grenville Street, Bideford. The owners are keen creative people who produce fantastic food. They provide our students with gorgeous cakes and beverages during the classes. The classes run in the downstairs space which is private and warm. The cafe is only a few steps from the historic pannier market which we use as inspiration for our townscape classes. The location is very convenient with car parking in the Pannier Market car park or on Bideford Quay. Buses also run frequently to the Quayside.

Coming from the quay, Cafe Collective is located on the corner of Grenville Street and High Street. If you use either the Pannier Market car parks you can walk through to the Pannier market square by using the passage behind the Joiners Arms. Once in the square go down to Grenville Street and turn left. The Cafe is at the end of the road.

Peter Newell
MA BA (Hons) Fine Art
Higher Diploma in Fine Art – Slade
MA in History of Art
Pete trained as a sculptor graduating from the Slade in 1981. After running a successful commercial sculpture business for 25 years he turned his ideas to painting. Pete is intrigued by the sea and all things maritime. His paintings now focus on the ships moored around Bideford, his preoccupation is striking a balance between abstraction and detail. Pete has written and taught on a variety of Higher Education Fine Art courses. He also has an MA in Art History from the Open University.

Polly Pocock
BA (Hons) Fine Art
Polly started with an interest in textiles and particularly embroidery. She was a member of the Embroiderers' Guild for several years and taught evening classes. At art school Polly worked with a range of media to produce installations, films and large-scale drawings based on social injustice. Now her interest is in drawing, developing these into small paintings and prints. Most work is focussed on links between her native Cornwall and South Wales although drawings and prints of plants are also made. She has delivered workshops in primary schools and taught a range of day and evening classes. Polly teaches fine art at Petroc college also working with students with learning disabilities teaching a variety of subjects including art and horticulture.
